Graham first picked up a cornet at the age of 7.
He joined the Northampton Salvation Army Junior Band and remained with them until moving to the Senior Band aged 16.
He joined the Northamptonshire Youth Brass Band at the age of 13 and stayed for 5 years with John Berryman as conductor, who was also his cornet tutor.
Eventually he moved to Wellingborough Salvation Army Band in 1989, moving up the cornet bench to become their Principal Cornet.
At this time, he also joined Moulton 77 Brass Band where he stayed for 7 years as the Principal Cornet before moving to the then Travelsphere Holidays Band in January 2003.
