Mark Giles

Mark started playing Euphonium at the age of 12 with Wood Green (London) SA junior band, progressing to their senior band at age 14. It was at this time that Mark received tuition from Peter Wise for a period of 4 years.

On moving to Norwich in 1979, Mark commenced playing with the Norwich SA band, again on Euphonium where he held the principal's seat for a total of 20 years.

Mark's playing career has enabled him to engage in tours to the USA, Canada, Norway and Sweden featuring as a guest soloist as well as featuring on a number of band recordings.

It was in 2006 when Mark first stepped in to the world of contesting when he joined the GUS Band on Euphonium and after a short break returned to take up the 1st baritone seat. Subsequently, Mark was appointed principal Euphonium in March 2009.
